With the paramount importance of hygiene in the food industry, metal detectable plasters have become a vital part of any first aid repertoire. Any employee working within the food manufacturing industry suffering from an injury needs to ensure that the injury is treated and secured hygienically, not just for themselves but for the integrity of the food they are working with.

The advantage of metal detectable plasters is that they can still be detected even if a contaminated food product makes it through other detection processes unseen. Most detectable plasters in the food industry are coloured blue as this is a conspicuous colour which is generally not present in most foodstuffs, allowing it to be easily spotted visually. However, there are different kinds of metal detectable plasters which are appropriate for different situations. Metal detection process

Most food manufacturers will conduct metal detection scans on their food products in order to detect any unwanted materials within the product. However, not all metal detector systems are identical and are capable of picking up different kinds of metal, so you need to know what kind of detector and plaster you will need. 

Non-ferrous material


Where food products or its packaging do not contain any kind of metal, then standard metal detectors capable of detecting ferrous and non-ferrous detectors are ideal as you will be able to use metal detectable plasters which contain an aluminium strip. However, if aluminium packaging is used for food products these kinds of plasters will not be suitable.


X-Ray scanning

An alternative to metal detectors is to use x-ray technology instead as a method of producing safe food products.
