Safe food now for a healthy tomorrow. #WorldFoodSafetyDay

Food safety is a cause close to our hearts here at Klipspringer, so we are pleased to be supporting this important campaign.

First, what is World Food Safety Day?

World Food Safety Day (WFSD), celebrated on 7 June 2021, aims to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage food-borne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism and sustainable development.

This year’s theme, ‘Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow’, stresses that production and consumption of safe food has immediate and long-term benefits for people, the planet and the economy. Recognising the systemic connections between the health of people, animals, plants, the environment and the economy will help us meet the needs of the future.

Recognising the global burden of food-borne diseases, which affect individuals of all ages, in particular children under-5 and persons living in low-income countries, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed in 2018 that every 7 June would be World Food Safety Day. In 2020, the World Health Assembly further adopted a decision on strengthening efforts on food safety to reduce the burden of food-borne disease. WHO and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) jointly facilitate the observance of World Food Safety Day, in collaboration with Member States and other relevant organisations.

So, how are Klipspringer supporting World Food Safety Day 2021?

Put simply, in many different ways! Below you can see a highlight of some of the initiatives we are running:
For every order received on World Food Safety Day 2021 (Monday 7th June 2021), Klipspringer will make a donation to the United Nations World Food Programme, which supports food and food safety initiatives in the most deprived countries at greatest risk.  What's more, for every order received online via www.klipspringer.com, we'll double our donation!
All Klipspringer staff have been invited to wear casual dress for World Food Safety Day 2021, in return for a voluntary donation.  No fixed amount is set, although we know we can rely on the generosity of the Klipspringer team to make this worthwhile!   Our target?  To raise enough to feed 8-10 people on the World Food Programme for one whole month!
Our Technical Compliance Manager, Sheena Britton, has been busy making fresh scones!  Our team have the choice to make between a warm fruit scone with homemade plum jam and clotted cream, or a warm cheese, chive and bacon scone with chutney!  Again, all donations will be sent to the UN World Food Programme.  Thanks Sheena.

(And it goes without saying that these have been prepared and will be served with optimum food safety and totally Covid secure!)
Brain's trust might be stretching it a bit, however our team have held 2 brainstorms (even including Jason our cleaner), to come up with ideas on how Klipspringer can raise awareness and do our bit to improve food safety across the world.
What else do you think Klipspringer could do to improve food safety globally?  We want to hear your ideas - however big or small - please call us on 01473 461800 or email customerservice@klipspringer.com.
